Sunday lemon cake, undone

An imperfect, almost-too-soft cake for slow afternoons and good company.

Sunday lemon cake, undone

There is a quiet language to a well-loved home. Linen that has softened with washing, ceramics that hold the warmth of morning coffee, the silence of a candle just before it is lit. This is the everyday I want to romanticize, the kind that asks nothing more from you than your attention.

Setting the table

Begin with a long stretch of natural linen, the colour of unbleached paper. Layer in stoneware in oat and dove, hand-thrown if you can find it. A single stem of olive in a clear glass bottle is more than enough.

The simplest rituals, repeated with care, become the rooms we live inside.

Lay two candles, never more. Pour the water slowly. Fold the napkin once, with care. Let the morning find its own pace, and your house will follow.

On choosing well

We collect slowly here. A handful of beautiful, useful objects worn into softness over years. Hand-woven linens from Lithuania. A stoneware bowl with the maker’s thumbprint pressed into the foot. The kinds of things you pass on, eventually.
